Running Apps Filter

Show only currently running apps in your launcher.

The running apps filter is a toggle you can activate while the radial menu is open. It switches the menu to show your currently running applications instead of (or in addition to) your configured shortcuts.

Activating the filter

With the radial menu open, press the filter key (default: Space) to toggle the running apps filter on or off. The menu updates instantly. The filter automatically resets to off when the menu closes.

What the filter shows

  • Configured shortcuts whose app is currently running: these stay in their original ring position, preserving muscle memory
  • Running apps not in your configured shortcuts: these are distributed across the available slots
  • If there are more running apps than your rings can hold, Loopty creates overflow rings automatically

Muscle memory preservation

If you have Safari in slot 1 of Ring 1 and Safari is running, it stays in slot 1 when the filter is active. Only apps that aren't in your configuration get redistributed to fill the remaining slots. This means switching apps doesn't require relearning positions.

Auto-enable on open

In Settings → General, enable Open at Active Apps to automatically turn the running apps filter on every time the radial menu opens. This is useful if you prefer the menu to always show your current running context rather than static shortcuts.

Changing the filter key

The filter key can be changed in Settings → Shortcuts → Running Apps Filter. It accepts a bare key (no modifier required). For example, Space, Tab, or any letter.

Note: Icons for running apps that aren't in your configuration load asynchronously in the background. They may appear briefly with a placeholder icon before their real icon loads.
